MICHAEL TANDY, PHD - Founder
NO LONGER TAKING PATIENTS
Michael Tandy, PhD, is a licensed psychologist in Idaho, retired from practicing at Treasure Valley Psychology, PLLC. He is also licensed in California, and Washington and provides consultation with mental health organizations in those states.
Dr. Tandy began his training at Indiana University, earning a bachelor's degree in philosophy, and a masters degree in counseling psychology from a behaviorally based department. He then earned a masters and a doctor of philosophy in clinical psychology from Seattle Pacific University. Each advanced degree carries a minor in systems psychology in order to support the individual in the system in which they live and work.
Dr. Tandy believes every interaction encourages you or discourages you. We will find the courage to face your challenges, improve your quality of life, and maximize your success. He has received advanced training that allows him to deliver competent, evidenced-based treatment or assessment in the following areas:
DBT is first line treatment for behavior disorders that involve emotional dysregulation, relationship instability, and suicidal or other self-harm behaviors including addiction. Treatment includes individual therapy by an intensely trained provider, skills training in a group setting, 24-hour availability, and the providers involvement in on-going consultation. My office provides DBT-Informed therapy because all of the elements listed here are not currently available.
The developer of DBT wrote it “is a comprehensive cognitive-behavioral treatment for complex, difficult to treat mental disorders... and has since been adapted for other seemingly intractable behavioral disorders”.
At Treasure Valley Psychology, Dr. Tandy provides individual DBT sessions, he is available for phone consult, consistent with the DBT model, and is engaged in Consultation. When in-patient treatment is indicated, Willow Springs Center in Reno provides therapy and school services by intensely trained DBT staff. Dr. Tandy is the only referred provider in the Treasure Valley to receive Willow Springs DBT patients back into out-patient treatment. Similar arrangements can be made for adults wishing to use other hospitals.
